Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This agreement outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, fees, and your responsibilities related to the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the latter will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Requirements for Vehicle Rental
- To hire a vehicle in Ayrshire, you must be at least 21 years old, though age restrictions may differ based on vehicle type, with potential extra charges for drivers under 25. A valid full driving licence is required, meeting the minimum duration as outlined in the Rental Agreement. You must also present valid identification, proof of your current address, and provide payment details along with a security deposit. Additional criteria may apply as specified in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Ayrshire office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The total payment and security deposit are generally due upon vehicle pickup. All rates are quoted in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where relevant. We accept major credit and debit cards, with secure processing through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, a thorough inspection is required to identify and report any pre-existing damage. A vehicle condition report will be completed and signed by both parties. The vehicle should be returned in the same condition as it was collected, accounting for reasonable wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may result in additional charges. The vehicle must also be returned with the same fuel level as when it was picked up; refueling fees will apply if the fuel level is lower. Late returns may incur extra charges, so please contact us as soon as possible if you anticipate a delay. Additionally, you will be liable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges that occur during the rental period, along with a corresponding administration fee.
Insurance Coverage and Responsibility
- All car rentals come with basic third-party insurance included. Comprehensive details and excess amounts are outlined in the Rental Agreement. Optional insurance may be available to lower your potential financial liability, and reviewing these options is advisable. You will be liable for damage or loss up to the insurance excess, unless additional coverage applies. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, irrespective of insurance.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies depend on the type of booking and the notice provided. For precise information, consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Keep in mind that late cancellations or no-shows may incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited Vehicle Uses
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities or purposes. Engaging in racing, rallying, off-roading, or other risky maneuvers is prohibited. Transporting hazardous materials is also forbidden. Sub-letting to third parties or permitting unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited. Additionally, vehicles should not be used for purposes outside their intended design, exceed passenger or weight limits, or operate beyond agreed geographical boundaries without prior consent.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
8. Liability Restrictions
To the fullest extent permitted by Scottish law, Car Hire Ayrshire is not responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, that may arise from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the rental amount paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraudulent activities.
Ayrshire Legal Framework
These Terms are regulated by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be resolved exclusively in the courts of England and Wales.
10. Updates to Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon posting on our website. Continued use of our services indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
